Though times were changing in 1932, largely it was still a man’s world. Women were trimmed and pressed into a proper place—for some that was in a kitchen. For others, in a corner.  But certainly not in an airplane.

The sky wasn’t the only thing women were told they could not reach. Yet Amelia Earhart refused to live in the lanes laid out for her. She had her eyes on the sky. With courage stitched into her soul and faith guiding her flight, she rose above the clouds of doubt and into the wide, untamed, uncharted heavens and became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

The world stood in awe as her small plane touched down in a green Irish field, proof that determination can change the course and write a new and different story. What most forget is that before that triumph came years of rejection, failure, and noise—people telling her that “a woman’s place” was anywhere but the sky.

Amelia didn’t just defy gravity — she defied expectation. When she stepped out of the box, she stepped into history. Amelia once said, “Everyone has oceans to fly, if they have the heart to do it.” Her faith in something greater than fear gave her wings that cultural norms could not ground.

She wasn’t flying for fame. She was flying for every young girl who was told she couldn’t. For every dreamer bound by doubt. For every believer who knew God gave them a purpose that didn’t fit inside anyone else’s lines.

In 1937, on her final flight to circle the globe, her voice faded into the static of the Pacific sky, but her story never did. Amelia Earhart didn’t really ever disappear; she simply flew beyond what eyes could see.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Paul wrote it. Amelia lived it. And so can we.

Amelia’s life reminds us that boxes are for belongings-- not for believers. So keep flying your course. Keep chasing your calling. This life will try to box you in, mold you stiff, and confine you to a proper place.  But we ain't cookie-cutter creations. We each have a Calling. When it all seems too rigid, the pressure too hard, and the scissors seem too sharp, remember:  The world may build walls, but faith builds wings.

Fly out of that corner. And Keep your eyes on the sky.
