RBG
24"H x 30"W
For many, many years I assumed RBG was a person I should inherently dislike. Because she thought a little differently than me, right? Because she was far left. Outside of the box. In the margins. Over the top.
Right. Left. Us. Them.
How in the world can a bridge be built between all the lines and boundaries and labels??
I don’t know.
But Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Justice Antonin Scalia figured it out. And they were actually really good friends—although ideologically polar opposites. They made it work. They found a common ground. They B U I L T a bridge. Erased lines. Ignored boundaries. Refused labels—when lesser, fragmented assumptions might deem it all impossible.
Don’t ever assume.
Nothing is impossible.
One can stand tall with firm feet planted to make a stand.
But it takes digging deep and sharing the same shovel to build bridges for everyone to cross.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg taught me that.
Sometimes it’s the little things. Other times, it’s the Notorious Big things that make a difference.
RIP, RBG—People keep saying to pass your torch. Nah, I’m going to pass on your shovel instead.
